Shoreline Musical Theatre

Our History

In 1989, Jacquie Gordon, Irene Plato, John Montgomery, and Heather Gordon Murphy worked on a Tidemark Theatre fundraiser called The Cat Came Back. At the closing night party, John said to Jacquie and Heather, "When are we going to do a musical?" They replied, "If you do the music, we're ready!"

All three had been involved in musicals before - John at university and in Port Alberni, where he had taught, and Jacquie and Heather in Courtenay with the CoVal Choristers. Irene and Jacquie agreed to produce under the Tidemark Theatre Society. Wendy Richardson came on board as Director with John as Musical Director and Heather Gordon Murphy as Choreographer. Our first hit was Oklahoma! in November 1990. The group felt they wanted more autonomy so with the Tidemark's blessing they formed the Shoreline Musical Theatre Society in May 1991.
